What We’re About

Evermore is passionate about creating space for stillness in the midst of life’s demands.

We celebrate —-

small moments and big dreams;

passionate hearts and purposeful lives;

saying no to fear, and yes to love.

To social media or not to social media?

This is a question I’ve debated much. I see how social media has helped many businesses flourish, it’s truly incredible! And yet, I have personally struggled to be engaged in it without taking a hit to my mental health. Perhaps it will be necessary one day, but it’s not where I hope to start. I would love for our first interactions with people to be in person, learning your stories in person from your unique voice.

With that said, we do have a newsletter you can sign up for updates, poetry, and reflections. I get really anxious before hitting the send button though, and often times I end up hitting the exit button instead. Still, if you’d like to get a very very occasional update, link below (:

Evermore

[ev·er·more] adverb

1.Forever, Always

Evermore’s story, like many stories, begin far before its beginning. Here is a picture of my Popo, who ran a dim sum restaurant in Chinatown for 21 years. For 21 years, she’d wake up before the sun to steam baos and fill dumplings. She showed up on good days and hard days, because she believed in the power of hospitality. As her granddaughter, I’m still learning her story. One thing I have learned is that even though life fed her many reasons to be filled with hate and bitterness, she fed the world with love and hospitality. I’m so proud to be her granddaughter, and I hope to make her proud, too.

Evermore would not exist if it were not for my grandma and my mom sacrificing the fullness of their lives on a daily basis. It’s even wilder to think about how the suffering they endured actually led them to a place where they could pave a brighter road for the next generation. They worked even when they were tired, they hoped even when they were afraid, and they dreamed even when reality told them not to.

Evermore is getting to see the light of day because of how hard my grandparents and parents fought against the darkness they faced in their lives. So much of that darkness will go unknown by most, and it is humbling to think that most of us are walking around with pain and suffering that nobody knows about. Oh how I hope Evermore will be a space where we can intimately share and hear these stories that make us undeniably human.

There are many moments where I feel inadequate and undeserving to say that “I” am the owner or “I” am opening a cafe. I think it will always feel that way. Truly, those before me and those around me have empowered Evermore’s birth, and I know it will take a village to keep it alive. So to our future patrons, thank you from the bottom of my heart. The vision we have cannot be accomplished by a building, it will be accomplished by a community with heart, creativity, and compassion. Thank you for being part of that community.

hope & love,

Amy

A Heritage and A Hope

Meet Becca

Evermore would not exist without Becca. She said yes to being my business partner. It was the yes I needed to believe in myself and Evermore. We dreamt, laughed, cried, and drank lots of coffee together. For 2+ years she poured herself into Evermore. I was constantly in awe of her kindness, thoughtfulness, and hospitality. Then a boy came along and he was of course amazed at what an incredible person she was too, so he put a ring on it. This was a part in Evermore’s story that carried both celebration of what was to come (the cutest wedding!) and the grief of what we had originally imagined Evermore to be. It was an opportunity for both of us to remember what mattered— her marriage and our friendship. Though she’s a few cities away, her love and generosity will be a part of Evermore, forever; always.

Made with Love

While I’m excited to be entering the world of specialty coffee and tea, it’s not the world I came from. My most recent cafe experience was at Colin’s Cafe. It was started by one of my role models and colleagues, Andrea Song, at The Avalon Academy. Colin worked hard to keep me on track by utilizing his AAC device to tell me step-by-step how to make a delicious latte. He made sure I didn’t underheat our milk in the microwave and he taught me how to thoroughly enjoy the sounds of a nespresso machine. He also taught me that smiles are a very important ingredient for all drinks. As a speech therapist, I was fortunate to work with incredible students like Colin (and his amazing mom!). While I still have so much to learn, I hope to carry on what I did learn at Colin’s Cafe: work hard, make drinks with lots of love, and make memories with the ones you love. Thanks, Colin. (:

What’s your Evermore?

“Evermore” was chosen because it is a word that carries a sense of contemplation, commitment, and everlasting value.

We hope when you come to Evermore, you can slow down and feel cared for. From that place of feeling cared for, the human soul remembers that it matters, and has a renewed vision of what really matters to them, not just in a moment but forevermore.
